My name is Sarah Vanheukelom and I’ve been interested in music and sound for as long as I can remember. I used to record cassettes in my bedroom and ever since my father gave me my first real microphone and mixing console, there's nothing else I've wanted to do.
I graduated in Audiovisual Techniques (film, TV, video) at Narafi, Brussels. During this study, both the technical and artistic fields of the audiovisual world were explored and I was trained to be a creative all-rounder. I did an internship at Studio 100 (camera assistance, "Het Huis Anubis") and I was a second boom operator for the feature film "Blinker en de blixvaten".
From 2008 until 2013 I worked at Videohouse as an ENG/EFP Technician. Today, I work as a freelance sound engineer and go by the name SoundSarah, providing sound for documentaries, podcasts, voice-overs, TV programmes, commercials and fiction.
IF IT SOUNDS GOOD, IT LOOKS BETTER
The audiovisual sector is quickly changing, so I’m always checking out the latest techniques and trends. It’s difficult to produce a good end product when the recordings aren't good enough. That’s why a good sound engineer on location is so important. Before we start recording, I select the best material, carefully considering every aspect of the situation. After all, not every microphone is suitable for every room or voice. I follow the recording carefully and make adjustments where necessary. My experience and technique never let me down!
